Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)

Patient & Caregiver Educational Resources

ROP is a disorder where blood vessels grow abnormally in the retina and can cause problems with vision or even result in blindness. Monitoring of blood vessel development and treatment at carefully timed intervals, if needed, is important to preventing permanent vision loss.

Learn more about what ROP is and how it affects the eye, risk for developing ROP, in addition to available treatments and resources for navigating care by exploring different topics within the portal. Animations about ROP and how it develops, as well as how treatment can target abnormal blood vessel growth can be found in HD Visual Learning.
